"The Host" directed by Joon-ho Bong in 2006 is a Korean monster thriller. I believe it takes place in the South Korean capital Seoul and it is about a strange mutant sea-creature, created as a result of chemical pollution (naturally), with what seemed to be multiple mouths, that rises from the Han river to cause terror and fright among the cities' inhabitants. When it returns to the river it brings a young girl with it, down to the sewers, and thus her family's struggle to find her begins. The title has a quite lame and therefore fantastic double meaning to it. The American military spreads the rumour that this clammy, and at times very dog-like thing is hosting a lethal virus and this makes the family's quest quite a bit more complicated since no one is allowed to go near the river etc.
Kang-ho Song plays the role of the distraught father, and does it brilliantly. This film is really quite good and I was very much in the mood for weird and slimy sea creatures tonight.
